Common Laundry Mistakes To Avoid With Your Washing Machine

Learning to do laundry is like a rite of passage, where we get into the nitty gritty of how clothes are washed. We learn tips and tricks to time things right and to get the toughest of stains out. However, even if you have the best semi-automatic washing machine, chances are that with time, the quality of washing actually begins to drop. Why is that so? Is it something that you have been doing wrong? Or maybe there is something that you don’t know about your machine.

As it turns out, there are some things that you are still doing wrong without your knowledge. While it is okay that you don’t know these small tips and tricks, it will actually help you clean better and let your machine stay efficient for longer if you understood its working better. Here is a short article about keeping your washing healthier for longer by avoiding these common laundry mistakes.

Laundry Mistakes to Avoid

  • Overloading Washing Machine

Overloading the washing machine is the easiest way to ruin the washing machine and the clothes that you are washing currently. All machines are built in a manner to withstand a certain amount of clothes. Your 6.5 kg semi-automatic washing machine is built to only withstand 6.5 kg of clothes in a load. Overloading beyond the limit will put pressure on the washing machine and the motor, which is not good for anyone involved.

  • Level of Washing Machine

More than you can fathom, keeping the washing machine on a level surface is an important thing. Much like any other machine, the washing machine also produces vibrations. Keeping it on an uneven or slanting surface will make the vibrations rock the machine while it is in operation, and thus, may even harm the parts.

  • Ignoring the Tags

Tags on clothes always, almost always contain the right setting and conditions for washing them. Not only is that good for the health of your clothes, but is also good for the health of your washing machine. The best way to do that is to separate clothes before washing.

  • Not Using the Right Setting

Using the right setting for a particular load is important. You don’t want to end up with a tough cleaning on your delicate clothes, while also getting a gentle clean on your gym clothes. Every type of cloth and every type of stain needs a right setting to clean them.

  • Too Much Detergent

Putting in too much detergent is bad for your clothes, bad for your machine, bad for you, and bad for the environment. Your clothes may not like too much detergent acting on the delicate fibres, while your machine may get the protective layer removed due to excess detergent. It will wear everything down so much quicker than you imagine.

  • Leaving the Clothes in the Machine

Leaving your clothes in the machine right after finishing a load is a common mistake that can be and must be avoided. Damp clothes and moisture result in bacteria build up, which is not only bad for your clothes that you just washed, but also for your machine as it may result in the build-up of mould.

Cleaning your washing machine regularly is something that you must follow, alongside following the above tips. Just run an empty load with warm water and a couple of cups of white vinegar to clean the machine. Hopefully, this will help you clean clothes better and let your machine run for longer. Happy Laundry.
